Inspiration Monday: Jessica Alba

I'm late on this. Again, I know. Things were insane today, and I've been up since 6 running around trying to get myself and the nugget ready for school. It's been a hectic day, but I'm kinda loving it so far, so I won't complain too much. :)

I'm going to try and keep up with my baby (Fashion Lust, that is) as best I can, but I've taken on a full course load at school, so things might be getting a bit more sporadic around here. But I'm sure you'll all understand, right?

Today's inspiration comes from the lovely Miss Jessica Alba. Head on over to two birds to link up your own look!

(this isn't the original they posted, but there's no photo credit, so I posted this alternate angle. For the full pic, head over to their site)

She's rockin' a blazer, tank, jeans, red Wayfarers, and a crossbody bag. Super easy to put together, and super easy to pull off. She's always so stylish (and a mom of TWO!), I can't say a bad thing about her!

(I realize this is being published a day late, and I had the best intentions to get it published yesterday, but my computer/Blogger was acting up, and I was too exhausted to mess with it, so I threw in the towel)

Saturday Wants-Fall Edition

Is it just me, or does Autumn have its own special smell? I feel like I can smell the cold air coming through, and it brings a certain nostalgic feeling. Autumn reminds me of sweatshirts, boots, bonfires, and football. I get really excited to wear layers and socks, and Autumn holds one of my favorite holidays-Halloween.

Come November, I'll be ready for Summer again, but for now, I'm going to relish the cooler temps and get excited about all the newest fashions waiting to be worn in my closet (I may or may not have gone a little nutso). My Pinterest page also has it's own "Fall Wishlist" on it, so be sure to check out and follow that board!

I've always been a cardigan and sweater lover. Come Spring, that's usually all I ever wear, and since they're easy to slip on when I'm chasing after my child, they're a huge staple in my closet. This season, I am loving all the prints and patterns that are adorning the cardis. I've already bought myself a brown leopard print one from Old Navy, but I'm excited to fill my closet with some different and versatile patterns. Check out some of my picks below.

1. Go ultra preppy in this Letterman Cardigan from Forever 21. Added bonus, it's in the season's hottest color, burgundy. Obviously, I love this look with jeans, but you can also pair it with a ruffled blouse and floral skirt for an uber-fifties inspired look.

2. This Spacedyed Purl Knit Cardigan also from Forever 21 looks like a super comfy blanket, which will be perfect for those frozen-to-the-bone days (unless you're fortunate to live somewhere that the temps don't fall below 60 degrees). I love how they're styled it with cream colored denim, but this can also look great with dark jeans, tall boots, and a fitted tee underneath. Think of it as "Equestrian Chic".

Another one of this season's hottest trends are spikes and studs. I'm sure you've seen them adorning everything from loafers to shoulders, but do you dare try the trend yourself? I have seen a ton of adorable heels, but I'm afraid to accidentally kick someone in front of me in class and puncture their foot! I think I'll keep them above the waist. Check out an easy way to incorporate them into your wardrobe, injury free!

Aren't those studs the perfect mix of naughty and nice?

I LOVE these printed pants. The colors and the patterns are absolutely perfect for Autumn- rich and extravagent. Lulu's hit the nail on the head by pairing these with a crisp white shirt. You want the pants to be the focus, so keep it simple with your top and your accessories. A bib necklace in a solid metal will work perfectly. Keep it understated and classy, and let the pants speak for themselves. A nude or complementary colored shoe will finish your look perfectly.

Soultry Romper - Wine

Rompers are usually viewed as a Summer outfit, but this gorgeous, long-sleeved romper will be perfect for Autumn. You can even pair it with tights when the air gets a slight chill. I am obsessed with the super deep v-neck and the long sleeves-so very 70's, right? I would leave a necklace out and instead accessorize with a fun cocktail ring and shoes.

That's all I have for today, it's back to bed for this tired mama! We have an FRG (that's Family Readiness Group for all you non-military readers) BBQ later on this afternoon, so I'll be posting my outfit later on! Have a wonderful Saturday, and make sure to soak up the last bit of Summer sun!

Happy Shopping!

(Sorry about the crazy layout today, I'm back to using IE on my new laptop and pics don't really C&P as well, and some things need tweaking, I'll be on top of it next time!)

If There's One Thing You Should Have In Your Closet...

It's a chambray shirt.

Seriously. It is so versatile and can be worn with just about anything, dressed up or down. I decided to put my theory to the test and see how many different pieces I could mix with it, and I must say, I was pretty successful! There are a ton of other ways you could wear this, and many other pieces you could mix it with, so this is meant to just be a little inspiration, and maybe the nudge you need to go out and buy a shirt of your own!

Look #1: Colored Denim
This is probably the easiest look to pull off. Just pair it with your favorite pair of colored jeans, throw a cute tank on underneath, and you're ready. I paired my neon coral skinnys with a lacy gray tank and nude flats. Gray is the perfect neutral for fall, and it goes great with the chambray. I threw on a tribal print scarf at the last minute too, I feel like it ties all the colors together really well!
(Please excuse the cell phone pics, my husband was too busy shampooing
our carpets to come take pics for me!)

1. Chambray Shirt: Old Navy similar
2. Neon Coral Jeans: AE here
3. Gray Tank: Old Navy similar
4. Scarf: Charlotte Russe similar
5. Flats: Old Navy similar

Look #2: Crochet Shorts
I love the country vibe of this outfit. Tie the shirt at your waist (you can put a cami underneath, tucked into your shorts if you're uncomfortable) and rock a long necklace. You can definitely dress this up, by adding some cute wedges, or keep it casual with flat sandals.

1. Chambray Shirt: Old Navy (same as above)
2. Crochet Shorts: Charlotte Russe similar
3. Turquoise Cross Necklace: Forever 21 similar
4. Brown Sandals (not pictured): Target similar

Look #3: Colorful Skirt
This one is definitely for the "younger" crowd, or for those not afraid to rock a super colorful, super tight, and super short skirt. You can always pair it with a more subdued or longer skirt, but my skirts are two lengths: mini and maxi. ;) I paired this look with a black tank underneath and wore it unbuttoned as well. I prefer it buttoned and tied, but you could also tuck it in and add a thick black belt. The possibilites are endless!
1. Chambray Shirt (same as above)
2. Black Tank: H&M here
3. Bodycon Skirt: Wet Seal similar
4. Sandals: Kohl's here

Look #4: Maxi Skirt
I think this is my favorite look, especially for fall. It's cooling off, but it can still get a little warm, so a maxi skirt will help to keep you cool! My gray maxi skirt is super comfy, and can also be worn as a strapless dress. Love that! A chunky necklace gives you an extra pulled together look, and some white sandals will complete the look (even though I wore brown)!
1. Chambray Shirt (same as above)
2. Gray Maxi Skirt: TJ Maxx similar
3. Necklace: Burlington Coat Factory similar

So...are you convinced? What do you pair your chambray with?

Link-Up with two birds: Inspiration Monday!

I know today's post is a little late, but we had a jam-packed day, and I had to take a mid-afternoon nap to try and ward off the lingering hangover I had from last night's festivities. We went to an event at one of the local wineries (my fave, Coyote Moon) and I indulged just a bit too much. That'll happen when I'm surrounded by wine.

I had completely forgotten to link up today, so I cheated a bit and threw together this outfit at the last minute. I think it turned out pretty cute though, and it felt very "Loft-ish" to me, which I can totally dig. The inspiration pic comes from Elizabeth Olson (you can see the pic on two bird's blog), and since I don't own any vests, my faux-motorcycle jacket will have to suffice. I love the mix of coral/red and tan, perfect for fall! Since my shoe selection is seriously lacking, the "vintage" Target shoes will have to do! Although I must say, I kinda dig them.

Jacket: Forever 21
Dress: TJ Maxx (it even has pockets)
Shoes: Target
Bracelet: Charlotte Russe (a total steal at $1.99!)

A long pendant necklace would look really great with this as well!

So there you have it, I need to finish my Gatorade, put the nugget to bed, and snuggle on the couch with my hubs. Enjoy your Monday, my lusties!
